just northwest of Los Angeles County and is bordered by
Kern County to the north, Santa Barbara County to the west
and the Pacific Ocean to the southwest. The county covers
1,843 square miles and has 43 miles of coastline.
The northern portion of the County is comprised mainly
of the Los Padres National Forest; the majority of the County's
population is in its southern half. Ventura County is home
to over 700,000 people and contains ten incorporated cities,
with the City of Ventura acting as the county seat.
An extensive network of freeways links the County's communities
and, along with railway and airport facilities, offers strategic
access to outside markets.
The County's three airports, located in Oxnard, Santa Paula
and Camarillo, are vital to the economic growth of industry,
business and recreation.
Strengthening the County's position as a major marketer
is the Port of Hueneme, the only deep-water port between
Los Angeles and San Francisco. The Port was recently granted
Port of Entry status and Foreign Trade Zone status.
With the Central Coast World Trade Center Association headquartered
in Oxnard, Ventura County is developing strong international
ties, especially with Pacific Rim markets. The trade association
utilizes networking, education and promotion to help meet
members' goals for participating in global markets.
Furthermore, Ventura County has a wide variety of communities
that offer families several surroundings and life-styles.
The Conejo and Simi Valleys offer an appealing combination
of rural and urban life-style within close proximity of
Los Angeles.
Santa Paula and Fillmore, located in the heart of the County,
provide a small-town ambiance set in groves of lemons, oranges
and avocados.
Fast-growing Moorpark and neighboring Simi Valley are surrounded
by horse country, as is scenic, artistic Ojai, nestled in
the mountains of the coastal range.
The cities of Ventura, Oxnard and Port Hueneme share a
California coastal lifestyle, offering abundant opportunities
for all types of water sports, including boating and sport
fishing.
Camarillo's near-perfect climate and open agricultural
space, a few miles from the coast, have attracted a balanced
economy to an area of planned growth.
